My dad sent this to me in an email forward. It's sappy, but I'm in a sappy mood, so maybe some of you won't just roll your eyes?

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone.. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer...

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie.. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22.. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business..

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42.. The best is yet to come.....

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

You know what might be fun?

A screencap game. Featuring Jared. The objective: to decide if the screencap in question shows Sam W., Dean F., or Jared as himself.

Would it amuse anyone else? Because I'm really laughing right now at the thought of it. I already have my first screenshot ready to go.

As much as I hate trying to make Chanukah compete with Christmas--songs, traditions, or having it all lumped together--this is cute. My mom sent me this in an email forward.

Note: The words "my true love" can be replaced with the Yiddish "mein Liebhen."

On the first night of Hanukkah my true love gave to me:

ยท Lox, bagels and some cream cheese

2 kosher pickles... )

PS: For the Israeli version, substitute 1 Falafel ball , 2 spoons of Hummos, 3 liters of Tehina, 4 plates of salads, 5 glasses of eshkoliot (grapefruit juice), 6 bags of pita, 7 mouthfuls of ful and 8 greps. Please note that the Yiddish "mein Liebhen" should not be used since it means in Hebrew "my Yoghurt!"

If anyone commented on my anonymous game entry but you don't see your comment there now, I didn't delete your comment. I thought no one responded to the entry I put up in the morning because I didn't get any notifications (didn't realize they were down!) so I deleted the entry and put up a new one. So if you responded, go check the entry and see if it's there, and if it's not, I didn't see it--please play again!

This looks like too much fun not to try. Of course, the last time I tried a "comment anonymously" meme, I didn't get any responses. This only works if you play along!

Reply ANONYMOUSLY to this post with:

1. One secret.
2. One compliment.
3. One non-compliment.
4. Lyrics to a song. (a line or two will do)
5. How long we've been friends.
6. A hint to who you are.
7. A pair of TV brothers (and a memorable scene or story plot).

Number 7 is for another game I'm preparing. But I only have... four so far (A, P, G, W). I have another pair in mind (another P), but I may or may not include them. Also, feel free to pick and choose which ones you want, but the more you do, the more fun it is.t

I know I posted this at the Dragonfly, but I figured I'd branch out. It's easy, it's delicious, and it hits the spot on a cold day when you need something rich and warming.

Squash Soup
Source: Alton Brown

    Ingredients

  • 6 cups (about 2 large squash) seeded 2-inch wide chunks butternut squash [I've also used acorn squash]

  • Melted butter, for brushing [feel free to just rub the stick right on the squash]

  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt, plus 1 teaspoon [I didn't have the coarse stuff so I just used regular table salt--I didn't measure; I just sprinkled some on top]

  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper, plus 1/2 teaspoon [more or less to taste]

  • 3 cups chicken or vegetable stock [I used 2 cubes Telma vegetable cubes to 3 cups water]

  • 4 tablespoons honey [approximate, but don't skimp]

  • 4 ounces heavy cream [I used half & half--I think any sort of cream will do, even whole milk, but I wouldn't use lowfat or skim]

  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg [I grated the nuts right into the soup--yum!]

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Brush the flesh of the squash with a little butter and season with 1 tablespoon salt and 1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper. On a sheet pan lay the squash flesh side up. Roast for about 30 to 35 minutes or until the flesh is nice and soft.

Scoop the flesh from the skin into a pot and add the stock, honey, and ginger. Bring to a simmer and puree using a stick blender. Stir in the heavy cream and return to a low simmer. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
